A Leap of Faith Leads to Love & Wisdom
Fate led Brady and Minerva to cross paths at the local Porsche Audi dealer’s service department in Durham, NC in 1975.
He walked over to admire her Alaska Blue Metallic 1973 Porsche 914. They struck up a conversation and exchanged phone numbers. Brady recalls, “A week later she called me and said, ‘I understand that if I call this number, someone will pick up my 914, wash it, and then pick me up after work and take me to dinner.’ I knew I had a keeper, the car and the girl.”
Their meeting sparked another kind of love. Brady bought his first Porsche, a 1966 911, shortly afterwards. He sold it eight years later for $1,000 more than he purchased it for. Minerva chose to hold on to her 914, which now has over 83,000 miles on the odometer.
Brady undertook a period correct restoration on the car, which was completed in time to surprise Minerva for her 16th birthday in 2016. She’s a leap-year baby.
“The fact that I gave in and sold my 911 for a short time profit and my wife choose to keep her car and restore it only goes to show once again that women are smarter than men,” says Brady. “We'll never sell this treasure.”

Did You Know?
The 914 was launched in 1970, featuring a 1.7L 4-cylinder VW boxer engine (80 PS) or the 2.0L 6-cylinder engine (110 PS) from the 911T for 914/6 models. A 2.0L 4-cylinder engine (100 PS) was introduced in the 1973 model year, followed by a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine (85 PS) in the 1974 model year.
All 4-cylinder models had the ignition lock on the right of the steering wheel, while 6-cylinder models had it on the left of the steering wheel.

One of our favorite generations of air-cooled 911s, this 993 Carrera S—in what we think may be Zenith Blue Metallic—was seen cruising the streets of Pasadena recently.
